Carries 40 years of experience in the energy sector of Sri Lanka, in south and southeast Asia, the Middle East and east Africa. President, Sri Lanka Energy Managers Association (2004-6). Worked in Energy Task Forces, Ministry of Power and Energy Sri Lanka (1982-84). Chief Engineer (Generation Planning) Ceylon Electricity Board (1989-94). Principal Engineer (Load Forecasting and Generation Planning) at Saudi Consolidated Electric Company (1994-1998).
He is an electric utility planner, and his work experience includes planning power generation systems and tariff determination for embedded generation. he continues to be engaged in studies on a wide range of issues related to electricity pricing, grid interconnection and regulation of small to medium-scale grid-connected power plants. Since 1999, he has conducted numerous consulting studies for project developers, national and international banks, international financial institutions, and for electric utilities. Has served in various committees of the Government of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Power and Energy, including the national energy policy committee (2004-2008), a committee to review power sector reforms (2005), working group on renewable energy (2005-8), renewable energy policy committee (2013), and the national energy policy review committee (2018). He teaches energy systems, renewable energy and power systems to undergraduates and energy efficiency, demand management and conservation to Masters Degree students. He supervises several undergraduate and higher degree student research projects at any given time. He was a contributing author and the editor of the Sri Lanka Energy Audit Manual 1999, 2000, and 2013. He was the editor of SLEMA Journal until 2022 and is currently the editorial advisor to Sri Lanka Energy Journal.
